The article deals with theoretical approaches to researching adaptive behavior of humanitarian intelligentsia. Special attention is paid to the theories of social adaptation and their use for analyzing real adaptive behavior of humanitarian intelligentsia, who are actively involved in market relations. The authors determine social adaptation characteristics of intelligentsia coming from different places of residence and different professional backgrounds.
